How to Play Keyboard Instrument

Keyboard Instrument is a full 88-key online piano with labelled keys and a recorder. Here is how to use it and some easy songs to start with.

What is Keyboard Instrument?

Click or tap the keys to play notes. Every key is labelled with its note name, so you can follow simple sheet music or letter songs. Press Record to capture what you play and Play to hear it back; pressing Record again erases the old recording. Use Full Screen for bigger keys on tablets. You can press several keys at once to play chords.

How to play Keyboard Instrument

Click or tap keys. Use the Record, Play and Full Screen buttons.

Step by step

1. Find middle C (the C near the centre of the keyboard).
2. Play a few notes to hear high and low sounds.
3. Try a simple song using the note letters.
4. Press Record, play your song, then press Play to listen.
5. Switch to Full Screen on a tablet for larger keys.

Strategy tips to play better

• Start with white keys only: C D E F G A B.
• Try 'Mary Had a Little Lamb': E D C D E E E, D D D, E G G.
• Try 'Twinkle Twinkle': C C G G A A G, F F E E D D C.
• Play C, E and G together for a C major chord.
• Record yourself, listen back and try to play it more smoothly.

Rules & goal

How does the virtual piano work? The keys are named for your convenience, making it easy to play songs. Hit the “full screen” button at the bottom to make the piano larger. That makes it easier to play on a touchscreen device. You can even play multiple keys at once!

Make a recording by pressing the “record” button. Play it back by pressing the “play” button. If you hit the record button again, it will erase the previous recording.
